Four Fun Holiday Party Themes for 2019

It’s that time of year and holiday parties will be in full swing soon. Aside from gifts, Christmas cheer, merriment and memories with loved ones make the holiday season a special time of year we all look forward to. This year, trade in your basic holiday party for a themed, festive party that will excite, and hopefully entertain, your family and friends. You can incorporate these themes in a family-friendly event or keep it adults only.

1. The Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

Everyone has an ugly Christmas sweater, so you know your guests will enjoy this silly and hilarious theme. What’s funnier than seeing everyone’s ugly sweaters and making memories with tons of ugly sweater group photos? Add some laughter and excitement with a fashion show and award a prize for the ugliest sweater. Your guests can play games, sing karaoke, and make ugly crafts like ornaments or wreaths.

2. The Christmas Characters Costume Party

Throw a costume party fit for Christmas. Have your guests dress as their favorite Christmas characters. There are so many to choose from, especially from old and new Christmas movies. Some easy costumes are Santa, Santa’s elves, The Polar Express train conductor or elves, or characters from Peanuts. Don’t forget to award a prize for the best-dressed.

3. Christmas Cookie Swap Party

There’s a reason these cookie parties happen every holiday season. Who doesn’t love eating cookies, baking cookies, and sharing cookies? Have your guests bring a batch of their favorite homemade Christmas cookies and set up a cookie buffet of sorts. Christmas cookies pair deliciously with hot chocolate, so why not set up a hot cocoa bar for guests to make their own personalized hot chocolate creations? Provide plenty of mix-ins to choose from, such as marshmallows, chocolate syrup, sprinkles, whipped cream, candy canes, chocolate shavings, and cinnamon sticks. For a boozy affair, make a pot of mulled wine to round out your festivities.

4. White Elephant Christmas Party

This is a fun party that appeals to everyone’s silly side. Guests bring a wrapped gift to make a gift pool. Give guests a reasonable spending limit ahead of time to make sure all gifts are equally cheap. Most people have gifts from last Christmas that they didn’t like or use; gifts like that are perfect for this game. Each person takes turns choosing a gift to open, but their gift can later be stolen by another guest or exchanged for a potentially better (or worse) gift. By the end of the party, everyone will be laughing and showing their silly side.
